Today is Veterans Day where as a nation we say thanks to our military service veterans. Once upon a time veterans, in the best of cases, were forgotten, in the worst were scorned. Now as a society we have reached a level of maturity where we are aware of the sacrifices our veterans do for us. Still we need to do much more for them after their service, but at least we are working on improving.
As citizens we must honor those who serve in the military, because they are serving us. They are the ones that do the job that we as civilians are neither prepare nor willing to do. They go to the places where we rather not go. And in the process they leave family and friends behind to do that job for us.
Let us not forget that is us who send them in to harm’s way. It is us who vote in the politicians that represent us and send our military service personal to combat and disaster zones. Yet it is us the ones that forget the civic activism that can help influence the system to bring them back home, give them proper medical care and descent wages. Then why would anyone blame the military personal for doing the job that we send them to do? And dare not thank them properly.
On this day we have to thank them, send them our appreciation and show them our love and be grateful that they are person willing to do what we are not.
